A homoeopathic paediatrician, a counselling expert and a freelance writer are a few words to describe my profession. My sole aim is to put forth practical piece of information that guides every one right in the direction, blending the medicos to a layman with a simple gesture to make the medical things a little less convoluted and comprehendible.
At some point or another each one of us must have faced a burning sensation after food seemingly a regurgitation of food causing trouble and not so good feeling to be. The condition in medical terms can be defined as heart burn. Studies reveal a large proportion of population suffering from the burn odd particularly at night that leaves them sleepless with all related after maths such as fatigue, lack of concentration, dullness etc. Also in severe cases when left untreated or unattended these may progress to complicate with ulcers and predisposition for oesophageal cancer.
Why it happens?
The primary reason here lies the weakening of a valve placed in between the stomach and the food pipe that doesn’t allow the acidic content to flow back. The function of this barrier is to prevent the revert but in case of paralytic affection or a problem that doesn’t allow the valve to close / function fully causes the heart burn
Why it happens during the night?
The answer is but obvious because of the lying down position while asleep that will promote the back flow. During the day time our constant physical involvement along with gravity keeps the acid in place but while asleep the way becomes easy.
How to combat?
Most believe that the condition can’t be avoided and one has to live with it forever. But that’s not true, there are several techniques to combat effectively and progress a step forward to health.
The condition with the food so closely involved can be treated with its adequate management. Sometimes food alone can do with no prescriptions to follow along. All the aggravating food elements have to be eliminated. No heavy meals before bed are essential, giving the food enough time to be absorbed by the tissue. Further cheesy foods high in fat content should be cut down for a better living. And caffeine before bed is also not advisable. Also excess of spices is a complete no for such patients.
Never lie down immediately after a meal as this will act in favour of the heart burn. Always a gap of about 2 to 3 hours should be maintained in a meal and bed time.
While asleep a high pillow is to be used to constantly apply the gravity element even while lying down. This will minimise and let one sleep in peace.
Physical activity is a must. Just kick out the sluggish attitude and let your spirits work in full swing to a healthier life. These small tips are sure to help but one should always keep an antacid close by to ease off. During the initial phase of change a little help of the conventional treatment may be required but with a stringent diet application heart burn is soon to fade out.
So leave aside the dullness you were facing with sleepless acidic nights and welcome energy with focused approach to your life. Just a few basic steps towards health can take you up and up.
